OAKLAND: The Earthville Network celebrates its tenth birthday today! It all began in the Indian Himalayas in 1996. when a small group of volunteers spent a year jumping through myriad hoops to establish what would become the Dharamshala Earthville Institute (DEVI), the first Earthville project, and its revenue-generating host, the KhanaNirvana Community Café, an all-natural vegetarian restaurant in a small but bustling town in northern India. DEVI opened her doors on April 17, 2007, and the love and learning came flooding in. In the decade since its humble Himalayan beginnings, Earthville has blossomed into an international family of altruistic projects, spanning the fields of peacemaking, sustainable development, education, ecology, and the arts. Each of these projects is a small but brightly-shining star that adds its light to the ever-expanding constellation of human efforts to create a harmonious and sustainable global society. Clearly we need this light now more than ever in our lives, and we intend to keep shining with all of you! We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you who have contributed in so many ways to our collective successes, and we look forward to more joyful service with you and the new friends and allies we'll meet in the decade to come! Feeling inspired to shine with us? Take a look at our website, contact us here and let's get to it!
